What courses and programs does Cartier Language School offer?

We offer French language training for Canadian federal government employees and private individuals who are in the process of learning French as a second language. Training is focused on the needs and requirements of achieving BBB, CCCCBC and ECE (Exempt).

Cartier also offers short-term (5–6 weeks) English language immersion programs for international students. These programs are offered in the summer months only.

How long will it take me to learn French?

It depends on your current knowledge and skills. We do a complete assessment and then design a customized program based on your learning needs, personal goals and career objectives. Our goal is to work efficiently and help you enjoy your class time.

Does Cartier Language School offer courses outside of daytime working hours?

Yes. We can provide classes from 4:00-9:00 p.m. on weeknights and also offer programs on the weekends.

Where are language classes held, do you have an office in Ottawa?

Cartier Language School has offices on Albert Street. Some clients also request that our french language training courses are  delivered in their personal office environment.

How many students are in each class?

We like to keep class sizes small, to encourage comfort and participation. Usually there are 3-4 students per class.

 What kind of teaching methods do you use?

Our focus is on building skill, comfort and confidence in conversation. All of our programs are designed with the adult learner in mind, and employ a wide range of learning tools – multimedia, conversation, and computer-based – to keep students engaged and committed.

Do you offer one-on-one language coaching and tutoring?

Absolutely. Again, programs are designed and delivered based on your unique situation. Details can be discussed with a representative of the school.

My schedule sometimes changes due to professional obligations. Is that a problem?

No, not at all. We strive to be flexible and are happy to work with you to accommodate your timetable.

How long is your English-language immersion program?

A typical immersion program for international students is 5–6 weeks, offered during the summer months (June, July and August).

What can I expect during that time?

Instruction is focused on English conversation, so you can expect lots of opportunity to practice your new English language skills. Classes are held Monday to Friday, and a typical day runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., with outside field trips on Friday afternoons.

What kind of learning environment do you have?

Our English language instructors are professional, caring and committed. Class sizes are small, allowing teachers to focus on the specific learning needs of all participants. The learning environment itself is bright, clean and welcoming. The occasional field trips encompass a wide range of Ottawa’s cultural and historical places of interest.
